Takashi Murakami Exposition at Museum of Fine Arts Boston

One of the joys of membership is being able to have previews of new expositions before the crowds start arriving. This weekend I was privileged to see the new Takashi Murakami: Lineage of Eccentrics. A Collaboration with Nobuo Tsuji and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

I wouldn't say I'm a connoisseur of Japanese art (even though the MFA has one of the better Japanese art collections outside of Japan), I have been looking forward to this series since I heard about it a couple of months ago.

Murakami's vibrant colors, textures and detail are extraordinary. Enjoy! The collection is open until April 2018.

Matisse Collection & Summer of Love at the MFA

The French post-Impressionist Henri Matisse believed "objects" are "actors" and his art reflects how he used the same object but made it a "character" in his art. The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is celebrating "Matisse in the Studio" until July 9. The collection includes several phases of his artwork including his nude work and how African art influenced it. Matisse would use a piece of tapestry, photograph or coffee pot as inspiration. His daughter Marguerite was one of his favorite.

Summer of Love

I was pleasantly surprised to find a photo collection at the museum called "Summer of Love"  50th year celebrating the psychedelic life of 1967 including Jefferson Airplane, and The Grateful Dead. Primarily looking at San Francisco, (but also Richard Avelon's portraits of the Beatles), there are more than 120 posters to get your inner "hippie" on.
