Heavy Metal’s Iron Maiden Rocks TopFest

TopFest line-up

One of the great things I love about living in Piestany is all the wonderful events and concerts and for this heavy metal girl, TopFest is well, tops.  After hearing Iron Maiden was headlining this year’s TopFest I ran out to get my ticket to rock!

On the second largest stage ever built in Slovakia, in front of 30,000 fans, Maiden exploded right on time at 21:00 and played for two hours.  With his best dramatic skills, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, flew across the stage hitting all the high notes with ease.  The 38 year-old band sounds as strong and forceful as it did in the 80’s with the set list including many songs from “The Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” album and “Prisoner” (my personal favorite). This is the first Maiden tour since 1998 which the "The Prisoner", "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" were played respectively.  Eddie, the renowned Maiden mascot, showed his face about halfway through the concert in his General Custer rig to the delight of fans.

Ever the entertainers; founder and bassist, Steve Harris and guitarists, Dave Murray (sporting a shorter hair cut), Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers plus phenomenal drummer Nicko McBrain jumped and danced moving incessantly from one side of the stage to the other.  Obviously age is just a number. These 50-somethings won’t be stopping anytime soon.

My cheap phone camera doesn't do justice to the event and are the photos are quite blurry but will give you somewhat of an idea.  This was a pretty big event for this little country.

This head-banger was thrilled to see Maiden in person in Slovakia. Thank you TopFest for making it happen.
