One of the great things about living in Boston is you can take a day and feel like you've left for vacation.
The New England Aquarium is one of those places where, in just a few hours you can feel like you are transported to another place.
Although the space is relatively small, it is well constructed and has four levels of exhibits with seals, penguins, a marine mammal center, tide pool and Giant Ocean Tank that is in the center of the facility.
Walk a winding route through all the exhibits and tanks. Every few hours there are shows and presentations.
I happened to arrive as the penguin presentation and show began. The exhibit staff is a mixture of seasoned professionals and student volunteers, to help attendees understand aquarium life and sustainability.
The bottom level is the Science of Sharks new exhibit. There are over 500 varieties of sharks and most are 4 feet or under.
Personally I didn't want to touch the fish, but there are tanks where you can actually feel the fish if you are into that.
The aquarium is located on Boston Harbor wharf. There is a harbor walk down Atlantic Avenue from Faneuil Hall to the South Boston.
After the trip to the aquarium walk down to Hooks for a lobster roll. Yummy.
